General Studies in Science

Full-Time Course Plan

The following are standard patterns of enrolment or pathways for candidates studying on a full-time or part-time basis. They take into account unit pre-requisite, co-requisite and timetabling requirements. Candidates can each year choose to study fewer units than the full-time pattern or more units than the part-time pattern, but if doing so should use these standard patterns as guides as to how best structure their studies.

A six credit point unit is estimated to require a total workload of approximately 150 hours per unit (this means about 12 to 15 hours per week per unit).

Students intending to proceed to an Initial Teacher Education course such as the Bachelor of Education (Secondary Mathematics), Bachelor of Education (Secondary Science) or Bachelor of Education (K-12 Teaching) will maximise the amount of Advanced Standing they may be granted if they consult the course rules of their intended course and choose Listed Units that are appropriate to the proposed course. It is not mandated students do this; students lacking background in a proposed teaching area are strongly encouraged to complete preparatory studies at 100-level in that area.
